Ten ridiculous anti-MAP arguments

A lot of my articles lean on the complex side. There's a tendency toward the abstract. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of people simply not reading, or not actually understanding. Therefore, today I'm going all Buzzfeed in my approach. Let's take a look at... clears throat and speaks like a Californian... 10 anti-MAP arguments, and why they're so wrong!

10. "MAPness is not a legitimate sexuality"

A sexuality is a prolonged pattern of sexual attraction toward a certain group of people. A lack of public support is completely irrelevant. If you're primarily attracted to minors, and don't just jack off to them as a kind of fetish, you have a MAP sexuality.

9. "Possession of criminalized images is harmful"

When people download Hollywood movies without paying anything, the movie industry freaks out about how they're losing billions. But when people download underage images without paying anything, it's suddenly "contributing to a market". That doesn't make any sense. Moreover, a lot of 'producers' are now adolescents messing around on camera, not adults violently assaulting children. The only argument for simple possession being illegal is that you're a Karen who likes telling others what they can and can't do in their own home.

8. "Children are asexual"

I've worked with children and teens of a variety of ages. While adult-like sexuality develops from early adolescence, a more childish sexuality is present in younger children. When I taught 3rd and 4th grade students in the past, I frequently had to remind them not to make verbal and physical sex jokes. Adults are actively suppressing child sexuality, not 'sexualizing kids'.

7. "Attraction equals action"

Adults attracted to other adults have sex with other adults. Therefore, they assume that MAPs have sex with children. But it's not exactly an equivalent. For MAP-minor relationships, the consequences are extreme, resulting in trouble for everyone involved. Accordingly, many MAPs refrain from sexual contact with children. A lot of MAPs are even philosophically opposed to sexual contact.

6. "Sex with minors is inherently harmful"

For much of human history, the Age of Consent varied from 7-12 years old. It was only raised in response to the actions of puritanical reformists in the late 19th century. The first law to raise the age beyond twelve, in the UK, also criminalized homosexual relations.

While many ideas from that era are now rightfully seen as weird and antiquated, the absurd notion of older children being incapable of consent remains. Modern studies that 'prove' harm are based mostly on cases of violence and coercion, and results are tainted by secondary harm (coming from stigma, 'therapy', and court proceedings).

5. "MAPs should just 'get help'"

As mentioned above, MAPness is a sexuality. MAPs cannot be 'turned straight' or 'turned gay'. Even attempting to get help with self-control is not recommended; it frequently leads to police reports or other 'disclosures'. Yes, this is an absolutely awful state of affairs, and one of many reasons why MAPness must be destigmatized.

Caveat: This is something that B4U-Act are working to address, and they maintain a small list of trustworthy therapists, mostly in North America and charging $150 per hour. The German Project Dunkelfeld may also be safe, but is restricted to Germany. Those who do not have access to such resources, or cannot afford them, just do your best...

4. "MAPs prey on children"

The conceptualization of MAPs as sadistic couldn't be more wrong. Most MAPs see children as moral equals who should be empowered, not as a 'target' to be monstrously preyed upon. The emotional and romantic aspects are at least as important as the sexual component. In a prior article, I discussed how MAPness is something of a mentoring orientation, purer and much less predatory than standard adult-adult sexuality.

3. "Being a MAP is illegal"

Being a MAP is not illegal. How could it be illegal to be attracted to a certain group of people? I am lawfully operating this website. I'm also a 6th grade teacher. People would like to criminalize our existence, but well... they can't. MAPs will be around forever, working in schools and daycares, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

2. "The public just want to keep children safe"

If they're happy, you should be happy too

Historically, anti-MAP policies have always been justified with some kind of 'harm reduction' argument. But as criminalization of MAP expression becomes more extreme - targeting cartoons and AI images - these justifications are getting increasingly flimsy. It has now reached a point where the mask is dropping entirely, and policymakers have started being brutally honest; they want to lock MAPs up because they find us disgusting, not to protect children.

Ultimately, the reason people are so aggressive toward MAPs is not because they want to protect children, but for the same reasons they lynched blacks, subjugated women, and beat up gays in days gone by. It's pure hate, and it requires much firmer retaliation from MAPs.

1. "MAPs should feel ashamed"

MAPness is a beautiful sexuality, more wholesome than regular adult-adult attraction, and even its consensual expression is not inherently harmful. Rather than being condemned as predatory and sadistic, MAPness ought to be held up as a beacon of light. Accordingly, MAPs need to make every effort they can to spend time with children, instead of internalizing society's ridiculous hatred and paranoia.
