Moderate is not a word that many would use to describe me. I have quirky opinions, sometimes extreme ones, and I'm happy to share my thoughts even when I know almost everyone in the world will take issue with what I have to say. I'm also a major advocate of free speech, including when that speech comes from the opposite end of the spectrum to my own views. Just look at the many 'kill yourself pedo' comments I've approved on my own blog. So for me to say a platform has a problem with extremism means that its issues are truly serious. Today I'll be talking about the den of iniquity that is Substack, starting with the woman who is threatening to come to the school I work at to murder me with the platform's blessing.

The psycho stalker

I made an account on Substack in early July, to respond to people harassing former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards His comments section was filled with slurs, incitement to suicide, and so on. Following my supportive comments, someone asked me if I was a pedophile, as is always the case when you offer even the slightest defense of anyone tarred with the brush. I replied that yes, I am indeed attracted to boys aged 8-14. The horror!

I don't precisely recall the exact chain of events from there, but a group of TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists) found my content and started harassing me. One lady in particular went crazy, stalking my account and calling me a molester, a groomer, and a plethora of other lovely words. I defended myself very calmly, with restraint, even expressing sympathy for her purported experience of childhood abuse. And that was quite a gesture given that she was wrongly conflating me with her abuser in a highly aggressive manner, and this distinction had already been explained to her several times.

Of course, people often lose their minds when discussing MAP-related issues; that part is not unusual. What is truly terrifying about the lady in question is the series of threats she posted. These include repeatedly demanding the location of my place of work, a school, while in a state of rage and having posted multiple graphic descriptions of what she would like to do. I've screenshotted and archived these threats, and I've sent a report to the FBI about this potential school shooter. Given her comments on other issues, I wouldn't put it past her to do something to a trans kid while she was there to murder me.

It's unclear whether the FBI will prioritize investigating this woman, but she absolutely needs a legal or mental health intervention. Her rage and anger is far beyond the normal level of 'woodchipper' rhetoric, and it's only a matter of time before she commits a violent crime. So far I have established that she is a 38-year-old former teacher, living in a state with a large Nepalese population, has her phone set to the EDT -4 time zone, and is a recovering alcoholic. Should you find out more, please let me know and I will forward to local authorities, who are more likely to act than a behemoth like the FBI. We need to find her before it's too late.

Suspension

While I was very calm in my responses, and the psycho stalker described how I needed to be mutilated, I'm sure regular readers might guess which account was suspended. Mine, of course! Oddly, it was suspended under the "Spam & Phishing policy", which makes no sense at all. Is it because I'm a MAP? Maybe. Platforms like Bluesky are particularly aggressive about censoring accounts run by MAPs, even those that seek to prevent offending and offer mental health support.

But I'm not sure this is purely a case of suspending the account because the person is a MAP. That wasn't the reason given. Rather, I suspect Substack acts based on volume of reports. We've seen that YouTube operates this way; hate broadcaster Sly Boy has had many of his videos removed or demonetized due to mass reporting organized by MAPs in the pediverse. The TERFs on Substack wrote that they had gotten together to report my account en masse. On the contrary, only myself and one other MAP reported the violent threats from the psycho stalker. That would explain the discrepancy.

The fact that it may not be a case of discrimination hardly makes Substack look any better, however. If they remove accounts based solely on the number of reports received, and not their actual content, the site has a major safety issue. Indeed, we've seen that a person can threaten to visit a school in a murderous rage, and nothing will be done unless enough reports are received. It's only a matter of time before Substack facilitates a school shooting or the like.

As it stands, anybody reading the claims made against me will assume I'm an active child molester or groomer. My comments clarifying that I am not such have been deleted. This is not only facilitating extreme defamation, but also a case of putting someone at serious risk of violence, given I was repeatedly threatened by an unhinged group of radicals and banned for trying to defend myself against them.

A platform of hate, for $$$

Substack is not an otherwise pleasant platform that only flips out over MAP issues. It's one well known for its hate content. I am a moderate liberal who generally supports the rights of immigrants and trans people, and who opposes western exceptionalism and anglo imperialism. Still, the Substack algorithm constantly fed me content by extreme transphobes, hardcore US/UK nationalists, even literal nazis. Not only that, but Substack delivered such content directly to my inbox, hoping to lure me to their site with hate material. This is a platform that is actively pushing people toward groups so extreme that they could well be deemed unlawful in countries like Germany and the UK. I know Substack is operating in those countries, and has legal obligations it is apparently not fulfilling.

The claim that Substack is platforming extremists is of course not a new one. It has been widely criticized for supporting groups that actively identify as nazis, arguing that it's better to allow them to express their opinions than to silence them. As a staunch free speech advocate, I don't disagree entirely with letting them show how awful and hateful they are. I do, however, contend that Substack is not tolerating them because it truly believes in freedom of expression.

My account, which didn't generate any income for Substack, was shut down because enough people complained. Huw Edwards, who is a convicted child sex offender, is allowed to maintain his site because it generates clicks and publicity. Meanwhile, the nazi groups reportedly generate a significant income for both themselves and the platform, so they are allowed to remain. Substack cares only about money, even if it will get people killed.

What's next?

I've appealed my Substack suspension, and the appeal is still pending. I don't really care too much about the outcome; it is probably better not to get drawn into long back-and-forth spats with crazy TERFs who generate single-digit impressions. Besides, I already have this site, with total editorial control and no ToS nonsense to worry about.

But I do wonder if it's worth reporting the platform to some of the countries with more draconian policies on online expression. This is not because I'm opposed to free speech, but because I don't think Substack should be allowed to get away with how it handles moderation and sells hate.

Meanwhile, I urge readers to find out any information they can about the psycho stalker lady, so that the authorities may stop her before she goes entirely postal.

Rex Landy

I hadn't actually seen Rex Landy's comments until I'd already drafted this article, because she blocked my account (the one she knows about). She is a hideous woman, and a friend of the psycho stalker lady, who has recently been through the New Zealand court system due to her string of attacks on a trans woman. This ultimately resulted in a diversion, essentially a suspension of charges. She wrote, on a subscription-based Substack that her friend helpfully copied and pasted to their own site:

I received diversion at the Wellington District Court, 16 December 2025. This entails me signing a good behaviour bond: a guarantee to keep the peace for a year, 20 hours of community work and a letter of regret.

And yet, Landy continues to post incredibly hateful content on her Substack, including wildly aggressive statements targeted at trans people (some of whom are identifiable individuals), as well as defaming me and literally advocating I be shot. Some of her posts are very likely to constitute a violation of Section 22 of the Harmful Digital Communications Act (2017), the very same legislation under which she narrowly avoided a conviction last year.

I am now in the process of collecting as much information as possible on Landy's misdeeds during her period of probation, and I will be forwarding these to the court. Landy had presented herself to that court as a first-time offender who regretted her mistakes, and it's abundantly clear that she lied to them. Courts don't take kindly to being lied to and taken for fools...
